HEARTS Emergencies – from ECG to EM management

What to expect before the course begins

You will receive the HEARTS Emergencies handbook 1-week prior to the start of the course. This book will cover the fundamentals of an ECG and explain the HEARTS approach in detail.

What to expect in the course

This course will review the HEARTS approach to ECG interpretation and focus on clinical ECG interpretation in guiding management (i.e., the best next step). In the first half, you will learn the fundamentals of the HEARTS approach and understand how the approach can be used for physiologic and pathophysiologic correlation.

In the second half, you will be exposed to real, high-yield ECG cases covering a range of emergencies, in order to apply the HEARTS approach and learn key clinical pearls for each case.

The course is live and highly interactive, and no recording is permitted so that everyone feels comfortable participating.

Learning objectives

1. Participants will be able to systematically interpret ECGs
2. Participants will be able to apply evidence-based ECG interpretation in clinical context – to a range of emergencies

Accreditation

This activity meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Quebec College of Family Physicians, a continuing professional development accrediting organization recognized by the Collège des médecins du Québec and has been approved for up to 10 Mainpro+^® Certified Activity credits.

The CFPC has a reciprocal credit reporting agreement with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada: up to 10 MOC Section 1 (Maintenance of Certification) activity credits
